For the first time, patient groups, supported by funding from BioMarin, from six countries in Europe have come together with the shared goal of improving health services for people living with the rare condition PKU as part of the Live Unlimited PKU campaign.
Sapheon Inc. announced successful enrollment in a 30-patient, prospective, single-arm clinical study of the Sapheon Closure System — a single-use, minimally invasive approach to the treatment of saphenous vein reflux disease.
Physical exercise has a positive effect on the formation of cells in the intervertebral discs. This is shown by a study from the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, presented at the annual meeting of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS), which is currently taking place in Gothenburg.
The risk of acquiring HIV rises during pregnancy, according to a study of women in Uganda's Rakai District led by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The increased risk for acquiring HIV remained even after researchers controlled for behavior and other factors that contribute to HIV risk.
Researchers from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia have developed a technique that improves and cuts the cost of a technique called electroporation, which involves opening pores in cell membranes using an electric field to introduce substances like drugs and DNA. Current methods are aggressive and expensive whereas the new system manages to apply low voltage electroporation with a small printed circuit board, which costs less than a Euro per unit and does not damage cells.
