With tens of millions of dollars in financial support from the National Cancer Institute and the U.S. Department of Defense, scientists have identified when estrogen metabolism is out of balance it can start the process leading to breast cell mutations.
A study by the University of Exeter and the Peninsula Medical School for the first time links thyroid disease with human exposure to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). PFOA is a persistent organic chemical used in industrial and consumer goods including nonstick cookware and stain- and water-resistant coatings for carpets and fabrics.
Ardea Biosciences, Inc. today announced the completion of a public offering of 4,025,000 shares of its common stock, including 525,000 shares sold pursuant to the full exercise of an overallotment option previously granted to the underwriters.
Patients who arrive at the emergency department with low-risk chest pain and talk through treatment options with a physician show improved knowledge of their health status and follow-up options, compared with patients who received standard counseling from a physician, according to Mayo Clinic research presented at the American College of Cardiology's 65th Annual Scientific Session.
Since the U.S Preventative Services Task Force recommended against prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening for prostate cancer, there has been a significant decrease in the number of prostate biopsies and prostate cancer surgeries across the nation, report researchers.
