In early results of a large-scale randomized study published in 2010 and led by researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, giving daily antiretroviral drugs (ART) to HIV-infected moms or their breastfeeding babies for 28 weeks proved safe and effective for preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission through breast milk.

Boston Scientific Corporation today announced that it has closed on an additional round of financing with MValve Technologies Ltd., a developer of a percutaneous mitral valve replacement system, designed to work with the Boston Scientific LOTUS Valve, creating a unique mitral regurgitation (MR) treatment solution.

Using a new technique involving mass spectrometry of a single drop of blood serum, the test correctly identified women with ovarian cancer in 100 percent of the patients tested. The results can be found online in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers, & Prevention Research.
