New research presented today at the 72nd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons includes important findings on the causes of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in female athletes, such as posture and body movement. These findings may be key in the effort to find ways to prevent these types of injuries.
Devon Medical Products, a global medical device manufacturer and distributor, today announced it has received approval from the Pricing, Data Analysis, and Coding (PDAC) contractor for its extriCARE 2400 Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) pump and associated bandages and disposable canister.
President Obama's health care law faces a series of challenges in three appeals courts starting Tuesday as Republican lawyers from 27 states will urge the courts to strike down the law as unconstitutional. In a sign of the high stakes and the partisan divide, one case will feature a rare courtroom clash between the Obama administration's top appellate lawyer and his counterpart from the George W. Bush administration.
The rate of deaths in Haiti's cholera epidemic slowed on Monday. This followed a multinational medical operation scale up to limit the spread of an outbreak that has killed 259 people in the earthquake-hit country. However Haitian and international health authorities are still bracing for more cases before the epidemic is finally controlled. So far, the epidemic has mostly impacted two rural central Haitian provinces, Artibonite and Center, along with the few isolated cases in the capital Port-au-Prince. Suspected cases have also been reported in the Nord and Sud provinces.
