The purification of drug components is a large hurdle facing modern drug development. Scientists within the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute are using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to understand and improve an important protein purification process.
Consumer prices for hospital services increased 0.8 percent in May after a 0.7 percent climb the prior month, show seasonally adjusted figures released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In May 2010, the agency's index of consumer hospital prices increased 0.5 percent.
Mayo Clinic researchers have identified the first immune molecule that appears to play a role in prostate cancer development and in predicting cancer recurrence and progression after surgery.
Measuring a fever is usually pretty simple: place a thermometer under a patient's tongue and get an accurate temperature reading within 30 seconds. But that simplicity does not translate when it comes to measuring the temperatures of specific tissues deep inside the body.
