Touch Bionics, a provider of world-leading prosthetic technologies, today announced a significant addition to the company's i-limb range of bionic hands at the International Society of Prosthetics & Orthotics World Congress taking place in Lyon, France. The i-limb quantum incorporates the company's patented i-mo technology and is the first upper limb prosthesis that can change grips with a simple gesture.
A recent study has indicated that women who start menstruating at the age of 11 or earlier, or enter menopause before 47 have a higher risk of heart disease and stroke. Some other factors that were associated with elevated odds of heart problems in later years were miscarriage, stillbirth, undergoing a hysterectomy, and bearing children at a young age.
Ever since the previously unknown SARS virus emerged from southern China in 2003, University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston virologists have focused on finding the source of the pathogen's virulence - its ability to cause disease. In the 2003 epidemic, for example, between 5 and 10 percent of those who fell sick from the SARS virus died, adding up to more than 900 fatalities worldwide.
Efforts by the U.S. Department of Education to encourage school preparedness for learning continuity during prolonged absences or emergency dismissals due to H1N1 flu outbreaks included a recent tour of a closure simulation at VOISE Academy, a Chicago public school.
