About 1.8 million Americans have celiac disease, an immune-based condition brought on by the consumption of gluten in genetically susceptible patients. Among patients diagnosed with celiac disease by small intestinal biopsy in the U.S., those from the Punjab region of India have the highest rates of disease, according to new research published in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology,1 the official clinical practice journal of the American Gastroenterological Association.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Minority Health, North Shore Medical Labs, Inc. and the American Health Information Management Association recently announced a demonstration project to foster broader adoption and use of Electronic Health Records and support national efforts to reduce health disparities affecting minorities in underserved areas.
LiveData, Inc., a leader in real-time data integration and display, has been awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research grant from the U.S. Army Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC). LiveData will use the $730,000 grant to develop an integrated clinical environment with CIMIT's Medical Device Plug-and-Play (MD PnP) team.
Scientists have broken the rules of enzyme engineering to unlock a new method for creating chemical reactions that could unlock a wide range of new applications - from creating new drugs to food production.
