Digene Corp. has announced that the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin issued a pre-trial claim construction decision in the pending litigation between Digene and Third Wave Technologies, Inc. In that litigation, Digene alleges that Third Wave infringes its U.S. Patent No. 5,643,715 covering probes and methods for detecting human papillomavirus (HPV) type 52, a high-risk type of HPV.
Many people with multiple sclerosis (MS) have trouble with balance and a fear of falling, which can have severe negative effects on their quality of life by keeping them away from social events, regular exercise and community activities. And, if they do get out, the fatigue and anxiety of walking can be very taxing.
AAPC, the leader in enabling the business side of medicine, announced the results from the 2012 AAPC Health Care Salary Survey. The survey is open to all members of the health care community, including medical billers and coders, practice managers, auditors, and physicians. This year nearly 20,000 health care professionals responded to the survey.
A new National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded study conducted at Baruch College and published in Obesity found that overweight and obese adults who participated in three different weight loss treatments, all involving intensive, multi-component counseling delivered in groups, lost significant weight after 48 weeks whether the treatment was led by a health professional or by someone who had previous weight loss success.
Researchers at the University of Cincinnati have found that using high-resolution CT-scans to screen for lymphangioleiomyomatosis, or LAM, is cost-effective in non-smoking women between 25 and 54 who come to the emergency room for the first time with a collapsed lung.
