Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine have identified a potential new way to vaccinate against avian flu. By delivering vaccine via DNA constructed to build antigens against flu, along with a minute electric pulse, researchers have immunized experimental animals against various strains of the virus.
A new study shows a strong link between altered liver function and the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). This correlates with recent data on the role played by diseases affecting the systemic metabolism, such as diabetes and high blood cholesterol, in disruptions of brain function as in AD.
A new peer-reviewed study found that people are contaminated with several toxic flame retardants rarely studied in the US, including one that has never before been detected in Americans called TCEP. Scientists tested urine samples of California residents for biomarkers of six chemicals, all of which were present.
New Jersey Gov. John Corzine (D) on Thursday signed an executive order creating a special 11-member commission that will study the state's 81 acute care hospitals and assess whether the facilities are necessary, the AP/Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
