Blood diseases such as leukemia and lymphoma are currently treated with bone marrow transplants - a transfer of blood stem cells from a healthy person to a patient in need.
Cells from healthy individuals with major depressive disorder were found to have higher than expected rates of methylation at specific sites on their DNA, when compared to cells from healthy individuals without MDD, according to a study by a multidisciplinary team of Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and University of California San Francisco scientists, in collaboration with others.
Researchers with the Vanderbilt Diabetes Research and Training Center (DRTC) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center led a multisite study which has demonstrated that, when controlled and standardized, quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the pancreas is highly reproducible when using different MRI hardware and software at different geographic locations.
Many healthcare providers use ultrasound as a first-line diagnostic tool in detecting and monitoring women's health conditions. To help meet the needs of healthcare providers administering women's imaging, Toshiba has introduced a women's imaging configuration for the Aplio™ XG at this year's Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting in Chicago, Nov. 28 - Dec. 3, 2010.
The scientists at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany, who 'fathered' the Digital Embryo have now given it wings, creating the Fly Digital Embryo. In work published today in Nature Methods, they were able to capture fruit fly development on film, and were the first to clearly record how a zebrafish's eyes and midbrain are formed.
