Researchers from Mount Sinai School of Medicine have identified a six-gene signature that can be used in a test to predict survival in men with aggressive prostate cancer, according to new research published in the October issue of The Lancet Oncology.
Blood diseases such as leukemia and lymphoma are currently treated with bone marrow transplants - a transfer of blood stem cells from a healthy person to a patient in need.
Only about one in four people diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) survive five years after the initial diagnosis.
Depomed, Inc. today announced that the New Drug Application (NDA) for DM-1796 was accepted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the management of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), or pain after shingles. DM-1796 is an investigational, extended release, once-daily tablet formulation of gabapentin designed to reduce dosing frequency and have a low incidence of side effects.
According to a study presented November 4, 2009, at the 51st Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), a shortened, more intensive course of radiation given to the whole breast, along with an extra dose of radiation given to the surgical bed of the tumor (concomitant boost), has been shown to result in excellent local control at a median follow up of two years after treatment with no significant sides effects.
