Opposing thumbs, expressive faces, complex social systems: it's hard to miss the similarities between apes and humans. Now a new study with a troop of zoo baboons and lots of peanuts shows that a less obvious trait-the ability to understand numbers-also is shared by man and his primate cousins.
Researchers at Linköping University in Sweden have discovered a previously unknown warning system that contributes to the body's immune system. Mitochondria in the white blood cells secrete a web of DNA fibers that raises the alarm.
The multi-center study in Sweden and Norway with ChronSeal® is now finalized and the data are being analyzed in Sweden and by Kringle in Japan. ChronTech and Kringle have jointly decided that the results will be publicly available on May 27th. At follow-up of the ChronVac-C® -study where patients now have started treatment according to standard-of-care (interferon and ribavirin) all patients (100%) were virus free at treatment week 12 and 5/6 (83%) had less than 50 copies of virus/mL blood already at treatment week four.
In another installment in NPR's summer-long series "Beginnings," NPR's All Things Considered aired a story on Wednesday examining how the controversial drug misoprostol is being used worldwide to save women's lives.
