Mothers who drank milk with a probiotic supplement during and after pregnancy were able to cut the incidence of eczema in their children by almost half,a new study published in the British Journal of Dermatology has shown.
"I find a new report released Tuesday by Save the Children particularly interesting because it broadens the debate" over family planning by discussing not only the logistics of providing modern contraceptives to women in need, but "the young women, sometimes no more than children themselves, who risk their lives and those of their babies if they become pregnant inside or outside of marriage," Guardian health editor Sarah Boseley writes in her "Global Health Blog."
Promises of food, sums of money or entertaining pastimes: it does not matter what the temptation is, a new study shows that patients suffering from Parkinson's disease who are treated with Deep Brain Stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus are not more impulsive than others when making decisions about a stimulus that they find particularly appealing.
The Federation of Medical Women of Canada (FMWC) and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) are ready to launch this year's National Pap Test Campaign, to take place during National Cervical Cancer Awareness Week. From October 24th to 30th, over 100 health-care professionals across Canada are taking a stand against cervical cancer by hosting public Pap test clinics in their community.
Can long-term pain and disability be predicted in individuals recovering from non-life-threatening orthopedic injuries? A team of Australian researchers writing in The Journal of Pain, the peer review journal of the American Pain Society, www.ampainsoc.org, says yes and believes psychological factors, such as pessimism about recovery and depression, are major predictors of chronic pain in trauma patients.
