Older firefighters who are chronically exposed to heat stress on the job could be more heat resilient over time. Adults with a first-degree relative with Alzheimer's disease perform more poorly on online paired-learning tasks than adults without such a family history, and this impairment appears to be exacerbated by having diabetes or a genetic variation in the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene linked to the disease.
Anacor Pharmaceuticals announced today that on July 26, 2013 it submitted its New Drug Application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for tavaborole, its drug candidate for the topical treatment of onychomycosis. Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the nail and nail bed that affects approximately 35 million people in the United States.
One of the keys to quickly diagnosing anti-malarial drug resistance - potentially saving lives - lies in testing whole blood instead of extracting DNA, eliminating processing steps that can take hours or days.
