An expert working group of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) and the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) has released a new position paper which reviews the evidence of bone turnover markers (BTMs) in fracture risk prediction and monitoring of osteoporosis therapy. More importantly, it identifies research priorities and recommends that specific markers be used as reference analytes for BTMs in clinical and observational studies.
Among the problems people with Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) struggle with are difficulties with social behavior and communication. That can translate to an inability to make friends, engage in routine conversations, or pick up on the social cues that are second nature to most people. Similarly, in a mouse model of ASD, the animals, like humans, show little interest in interacting or socializing with other mice.
IRX Therapeutics, a developer of novel immunomodulators to treat cancer and viral diseases, today announced that it has raised $8 million through a note offering to existing shareholders. The new funding will be used to further develop its pipeline of cancer vaccine candidates, including its lead product, IRX-2. IRX Therapeutics has now raised a total of more than $80 million in private financing.
Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc., and EMBO today announced that EMBO Molecular Medicine will, as of March 2012, join the Wiley Open Access publishing program.
