Scientists at Jefferson Medical College are using tobacco plants to produce monoclonal antibodies – tiny guided protein missiles – that can target and hunt down cancer cells. VIVUS, Inc. today announced that additional data on Qnexa(TM), an investigational drug candidate for obesity, was presented at the 27th annual scientific meeting of The Obesity Society (TOS) in Washington D.C. Wesley W. Day, PhD, vice president of clinical development at VIVUS, presented the additional data from the company's two year-long phase 3 obesity trials during the Pharmacotherapy Update portion of the pre-conference on October 24, 2009.
Those governors who earlier embraced ObamaCare's Medicaid expansion-;here's looking at you, Jan Brewer-;might be feeling a little cheated. If only they had held out a bit longer, they might have been able to obtain something from the Obama administration in return, as Florida's Rick Scott purports to have done.
Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Eisai Inc. announced today that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee voted 9 to 5 that the available data do not adequately demonstrate that the potential benefits of lorcaserin outweigh the potential risks, when used long-term in a population of overweight and obese individuals to allow marketing approval.
