Software by Riverain Technologies significantly improves radiologists' ability to detect potentially cancerous lung nodules in X-ray images, and might be a cost-effective alternative to dual energy subtraction (DES) imaging, according to two new studies being presented at the 20th Anniversary Meeting of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging (ESTI), June 22-24, in London.
There are nearly 40 percent GP practices in Australia who do not employ the services of a trained nurse. Authorities believe that there are 441,000 unnecessary hospital admissions each year only because of inability of patients to manage their chronic diseases due to lack of knowledge, or their inability to get adequate follow up care.
A Mayo Clinic study has found patients report less back pain at rest and while active following vertebroplasty, a procedure in which medical cement is injected into painful compression fractures in the spinal vertebrae due to osteoporosis. Patients also reported improved function in their daily activities, such as walking, housework and getting dressed. The findings are published in the November/December issue of American Journal of Neuroradiology.
In their new book, Applied Software Development with Python & Machine Learning by Wearable & Wireless Systems for Movement Disorder Treatment via Deep Brain Stimulation, Dr. Robert LeMoyne and Timothy Mastroianni present the confluence of wearable and wireless inertial sensor systems, such as a smartphone, and machine learning, for deep brain stimulation for treating movement disorders, such as essential tremor.
