A research project funded by the National Institutes of Health has identified differences in the vaginal bacteria that may raise the risk of preterm birth among pregnant African-American women.
The prevalence of nonrefractive visual impairment (not due to need for glasses) in the U.S. has increased significantly in recent years, which may be partly related to a higher prevalence of diabetes, an associated risk factor, according to a study in the December 12 issue of JAMA.
Researchers have found what appears to be a critical tuning dial for controlling whole body energy, according to a new report in the January issue of Cell Metabolism, a Cell Press publication. When energy levels within cells drop, it sets off a series of events designed to increase the amount of calorie-rich dietary fat that the body will absorb.
LeVOCC, Inc. today announced that independent laboratory testing has conclusively demonstrated that the LeVOCCTM air purification system successfully destroys a strain of the H1N1 virus. Testing was conducted using the Puerto Rico 8 (PR8) strain of the H1N1 virus. This strain is an influenza A H1N1 seasonal strain and is a valid representative of all H1N1 strains.
Treatment of chronic wounds is a continuing clinical problem and socio-economic burden with diabetic foot ulcers alone costing the NHS £300 million a year.
