Behavioral healthcare systems are playing a major role in responding to the needs of the millions of Americans of all ages who experience psychiatric and substance use conditions each year, according to the latest annual survey from the National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems (NAPHS) released.
ZymoGenetics, Inc. announced that final progression-free survival results will be presented from a Phase 2 clinical trial in patients with Stage 4 metastatic melanoma at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting in Chicago on June 5, 2010 in an oral presentation. The open-label multi-center clinical trial evaluated 3 dose regimens of Interleukin 21 (IL-21) in 40 patients with no prior systemic therapy for metastatic melanoma.
Researchers at Otago University say that more than a third of middle-aged New Zealand women eat fast and this tendency could be leading to increased weight gain. The advice "eat slowly, eat less" has been around for decades but, unlike many dieting myths, this one seems to hold water.
A new analysis of the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) trials show that women who had metabolic syndrome before they started hormone therapy had a greatly increased risk of heart attack or dying of heart disease. Women who didn't have metabolic syndrome beforehand showed no increased risk.
Hospitalization for acute heart failure is the most relevant burden for the health systems in both Europe and North America. Despite its dramatic impact on patient survival, quality of life and health costs, relatively few studies have been conducted in patients with this clinical condition in order to identify effective therapeutic strategies able to improve not only symptoms but also patient survival.
