A major research effort to develop medical products to diagnose, prevent and treat the short- and long-term consequences of radiation exposure after a radiological or nuclear terrorist attack has been renewed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health.
Bacteria that become resistant to antibiotics lead to an estimated 23,000 deaths and 2 million illnesses per year in the U.S. The Centers for Disease Control is launching an expansive effort to study various facets of the growing threat by funding researchers across the nation, including two prominent water experts at Virginia Tech.
Mylan Inc. today announced that its subsidiary Matrix Laboratories Limited has signed an agreement with Tibotec Pharmaceuticals for a non-exclusive license to manufacture, market and distribute a generic version of the non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor Rilpivirine Hydrochloride (TMC278), pending its regulatory approval for the treatment of treatment-naive HIV-1-infected adults.
