KYTHERA Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced positive interim results from a Phase IIIb, multicenter, open-label study (ATX-101-11-26) of ATX-101 during the "Innovations and Renewals" session of the 11th Anti-Aging Medicine World Congress, April 4-6, Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) are clusters of dilated, thin-walled blood vessels in the brain that can cause stroke and seizures, yet exactly how they form is somewhat of a mystery. Now, a team from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania has discovered the molecular mechanism that underlies this common cerebrovascular disease. They published their results this week online ahead of print in Nature.
Last week, a group of 55 U.S. physicians sent a letter to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), urging the agency not to approve the use of Gilead's HIV/AIDS treatment drug Truvada for use as an HIV prevention pill - also known as "pre-exposure prophylaxis" (PrEP).
MarketWatch/The Philadelphia Inquirer reports on "the five biggest myths about health reform" - that reform would lead to a government takeover of health care, that it would ration care, that it wouldn't address "out-of-control" growth, that you could keep your insurance if you like it, and that changes would be better suited piecemeal instead of by one large bill.
