The announcement of a 3.225% pay increase for armed forces doctors by the Armed Forces Pay Review Body fails to address the continuing recruitment and retention crisis. Many doctors working in the armed forces will be bitterly disappointed at this missed opportunity to correct the disparity between pay for armed forces doctors and their civilian counterparts, the BMA warns today (26/5/05).
Twenty-five per cent of Crohn's disease patients have a mutation in what is called the NOD2 gene, but it is not precisely known how this mutation influences the disease.
Accumetrics, Inc., developer of the VerifyNow System, the first rapid and easy-to-use point-of-care system for measuring platelet reactivity to multiple antiplatelet agents, today announced that patients with high platelet reactivity, i.e. high PRU values as measured by the Accumetrics VerifyNow P2Y12 Test, exhibited an approximately four times higher rate of stent thrombosis than patients without high platelet reactivity, as seen in the ADAPT-DES registry.
A recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study on HIV prevalence among men who have sex with men (MSM), found that a staggering 48% of gay and bi-sexual men who were found to be HIV positive during the study were previously unaware of their HIV infection, according to a report on the study published in the Journal of American Medical Association.
Scientists have found that the more severely patients have been hit by depression across their lifespan, the less they react emotionally to negative faces during current depression.
