Scientists have discovered a link between a mutated gene and a protein found in dead brain cells of people who suffer from a form of dementia and other neurological disorders.
SDI, a leading healthcare market insight and analytics firm, today reported that the number of hospital outpatient surgical visits increased 4.5% in 2009 compared with 2008. The number of hospital inpatient visits with surgical procedures, however, remained relatively unchanged in 2009.
A new study, conducted by Ellen Kurtzman, R.N., M.P.H., FAAN, assistant research professor in the GW School of Nursing, and colleagues, published in the April 2011 issue of Health Affairs, highlights the importance of transitional care in reaching the goals of health reform, and provides evidence-based strategies to guide its implementation.
