For a slow-growing microbe that multiplies infrequently, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the pathogen that causes tuberculosis (TB) has long puzzled researchers as to how it develops resistance to antibiotics so quickly, in a matter of weeks to months.
Grants of almost $19 million will help to develop technologies to dramatically reduce the cost of DNA sequencing, the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), part of the National Institutes of Health, announced today.
While young men with prostate cancer have a low risk of dying early, those with advanced forms of cancer do not live as long as older men with similar forms of the disease. That is the conclusion of a new study published in the July 1, 2009 issue of CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society.
A new technique developed at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute allows researchers to collect large amounts of biochemical information from nanoscale bone samples.
CTS Corporation today announced fourth quarter 2009 revenues of $133.9 million, 6% higher than third quarter 2009 revenues of $126.6 million. Fourth quarter 2009 net earnings were $4.1 million, or $0.12 per diluted share, including a discrete tax valuation allowance charge of $2.5 million (or $0.07 per diluted share). Excluding this charge, fourth quarter non-GAAP adjusted net earnings were $6.6 million, or $0.19 per diluted share, compared to third quarter 2009 net earnings of $4.5 million, or $0.13 per diluted share.
