The number of diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients with thoracic malignancies has markedly increased, allowing for an individualized approach based on the clinical situation and molecular characteristics of the tumor. How to best select among these options for the benefit of the patients within an integrative treatment approach will be at the core of the conference.
This randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a nurse-led minimal psychological intervention (MPI) in chronically ill elderly persons with minor depression or mild-to-moderate major depression, and type II diabetes or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Nine months after the intervention, patients receiving the MPI showed a 50% reduction in depressive symptoms relative to baseline values and diabetic MPI patients had a better quality of life than diabetic controls.
In what could be termed a truly seminal discovery, researchers have shown that when females are more promiscuous, males have to work harder - at the genetic level, that is. More specifically, they determined that a protein controlling semen viscosity evolves more rapidly in primate species with promiscuous females than in monogamous species.
A prospective study of patients admitted to a children's hospital in Italy identified risk factors for falls. It found that lack of attention among parents or caregivers, or by the children, accounted for 41 per cent of falls and that most falls occurred when a parent or caregiver was present, indicating that such supervision did not necessarily prevent a fall.
OXiGENE, Inc., a clinical-stage, biopharmaceutical company developing novel therapeutics to treat cancer and eye diseases, has entered into separate Warrant Exchange Agreements with each of the holders of outstanding warrants originally issued in March 2010 to eliminate all of such warrants having "ratchet" price-based anti-dilution protection features in exchange for shares of Company common stock and a lower number of warrants having no price based anti-dilution protections.
