First DataBank, a leading provider of drug databases that help drive patient safety, today announced that the American Association of Health-System Pharmacists will honor First DataBank pharmacist Joan Kapusnik-Uner, Pharm.D, with the title of "Fellow" in recognition of the excellence she has achieved in pharmacy practice. Bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents is a significant problem for both human and veterinary medicine, but little research has been done on the prevalence or mechanisms of resistance in horses and other companion animals, and how such resistance might impact human health.
Sanofi-aventis announced today the commencement of a tender offer through its wholly-owned subsidiary, River Acquisition Corp., for all outstanding shares of common stock of Chattem, Inc. for $93.50 per share, net to the seller in cash, without interest and less any required withholding taxes. The tender offer is being made pursuant to an Offer to Purchase, dated January 11, 2010, and in connection with the previously announced Agreement and Plan of Merger, dated December 20, 2009, among sanofi-aventis, River Acquisition Corp. and Chattem, Inc.
An Indiana University School of Medicine researcher has been awarded a five-year, $1.8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for a clinical trial, aimed at providing new avenues to improve liver function for patients with alcoholic cirrhosis.
The researchers found that autistic people were less likely than others to have false memories about images they had seen earlier. The researchers had previously demonstrated this kind of effect with verbal material, but not with visual material.
