Our immune systems contain three fundamentally different types of cell: B-cells, T-cells and the mysteriously named Natural Killer cells (NK cells), which are known to be involved in killing tumour cells and other infected cells. Boston Scientific Corporation today announced that it has completed enrollment in the ORION clinical trial, which is designed to evaluate the Company's EPIC™ Self-Expanding Nitinol Stent System for the treatment of iliac artery disease, a form of peripheral artery disease associated with severe leg pain caused by insufficient blood flow to the muscles (claudication).
Fortifying grain foods with the B vitamin folic acid has saved about 1,300 babies every year from being born with serious birth defects of the brain and spine known as neural tube defects (NTDs), according to new data published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in its publication Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
"The insurance commissioner of Georgia has chosen not to comply with a federal request to create a state pool for high-risk insurance plans, opening a new front in the resistance by state Republican officials to the new federal health care law." The commissioner is a Republican candidate for governor (R. Brown, 4/13).
