Health officials on Tuesday reacted to a report from UNAIDS and the World Health Organization showing that the number of people living with HIV/AIDS over the past two years has increased and that the worldwide total now stands at nearly 40 million, the New York Times reports (Altman, New York Times, 11/22).
Tribogenics, a producer of innovative X-ray sources, announced today that it has closed a $6.2 million Series A financing round led by Founders Fund. The company previously received $2.5M in funding from Flywheel Ventures and other angel investors.
For more than three decades a new drug for the treatment of breast cancer had not been presented. A group of researchers were given the task of analyzing a marine sponge called Halichondrin okadai and obtained a mesylate eribulin substance that had already been applied to patients with this disease in the stage of metastasis, ie, when the disease spreads to other body parts and the result was that it inhibited tumor growth.
A new study by researchers at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences' Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology raises hope that autism may be more easily diagnosed and that its effects may be more reversible than previously thought.
