Researchers at NYU Langone Medical Center have discovered a mechanism that triggers chronic inflammation in Alzheimer's, atherosclerosis and type-2 diabetes. The results, published today in Nature Immunology, suggest a common biochemical thread to multiple diseases and point the way to a new class of therapies that could treat chronic inflammation in these non-infectious diseases without crippling the immune system.
Drexel University's Dr. Craig Newschaffer, a renowned autism expert and chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Drexel University School of Public Health, is available to comment on the recently released report by the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network (ADDM) that says one in every 70 boys in the United States is affected by autism, and that one in every 110 children has autism spectrum disease.
Following a limited three-month trial period in which more than one hundred and fifty patients with lupus-like symptoms were tested for the difficult-to-diagnose disease, a new blood test for lupus is being rolled out nationally.
Bipolar disorder, which affects nearly eight million Americans, takes a toll not only on patients, but also on their families and communities.
