Researchers have created the first mouse model demonstrating the role of a cancer promoting gene, Astrocyte elevated gene-1 (AEG-1), in hepatocellular carcinoma, or liver cancer. The mouse model represents a critical step in understanding the molecular mechanisms of liver cancer progression and could lead to novel therapies for the disease.
The Research Foundation of SUNY, which supports the advancement of education, research and discovery at the State University of New York, today announced it signed a licensing agreement with Biosense Webster Inc. for the rights to an Upstate Medical University innovation that helps locate and treat life-threatening heart arrhythmias.

More than 40 percent of adult patients in acute care hospital beds are 65 or older. Seventy million Americans will have turned 65 by 2030.
