A research group led by Lecturer Makoto Kobayashi of the University of Tsukuba Faculty of Medicine, has managed to shed light on the puzzling mechanism by which hemangioblasts become blood cells. Although hemangioblasts are the common precursor cells for blood cells and vascular endothelia that are present during the fetal period, the discovery of hemangioblasts in adult organisms has begun to garner attention from the medical world.
In the quest to find the biological route of drug addiction, research at Cambridge University, UK, is revealing what makes some people more vulnerable than others. Speaking at Europe's major neuroscience conference in Geneva, Professor Barry Everitt described what they now believe causes the switch from occasional, 'recreational' use to a compulsive habit.
Data have been presented today on the use of Hospira's Inflectra (infliximab), the world's first approved biosimilar monoclonal antibody (mAb), at the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (ECCO-ibd) conference.
Kaiser Permanente, one of America's leading health care providers and nonprofit health plans, announced today it approved 500 grants and donations nationwide totaling $90 million in the fourth quarter of 2009. In total, Kaiser Permanente approved $170 million in grants and donations to support efforts to keep people healthy during these tough economic times.
