Researchers have developed a new and easier method of detecting irregular heart rhythms such as Atrial Fibrillation (AF or AFib) after a stroke. At present clinical rely upon standard cardiac telemetry to detect AF seen commonly after a stroke.
Alere Inc., a global leader in enabling individuals to take charge of their health at home through the merger of rapid diagnostics and health management, announced today that on September 29, 2011, it has purchased an additional 5,443,771 shares of Axis-Shield stock, bringing its total current ownership position to 10,990,468 shares, or approximately 21.98%, of Axis-Shield's issued and outstanding ordinary share capital.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports on the bonuses awarded to 14 managers before the insurance website went live. In other state marketplace news, Colorado officials say about 67,000 people and businesses signed up for coverage this month. Exchanges also make news in Maryland, Massachusetts and Oregon.

A lower dose of radiation used to reduce side effects is not as effective as the regular dose when given with the standard chemotherapy in the treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma patients with early, intermediate-stage disease, according to a first-of-its-kind randomized study presented at the plenary session, November 1, 2010, at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).
