A collaborative study between researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston University School of Medicine has found evidence implying that alcoholism may have different effects on the reward system in the brains of women than it does in men.
Elixir Medical Corporation, a developer of product platforms that combine innovative medical devices with potent pharmaceuticals for site-specific therapies, announced the initiation of patient enrollment in the EXCELLA BD Randomized Clinical Trial designed to evaluate Elixir's next generation Novolimus Eluting Coronary Stent System (CSS) with bioabsorbable coating, the Elixir DESyne BD Novolimus Eluting CSS.
Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland's Cystic Fibrosis Center was recently awarded the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's 2012 Quality Care Award. This prestigious award recognizes cystic fibrosis (CF) centers committed to improving the quality of patient care and providing better health outcomes for people with the life-threatening genetic disease. Children's Hospital Oakland was among 4 out of 22 centers in the country to receive the CF Foundation's award.
Nethra® Imaging, Inc. announced that NovaRay Medical and Triple Ring Technologies (TRT) have successfully developed a real-time X-ray imaging system using Nethra's Am2045™ Massively Parallel Processor Array (MPPA) devices. The new system takes advantage of the highly scalable architecture of the Nethra devices by using 13,440 32-bit processors in parallel, contained in 40 Am2045 devices. The 40-TeraOPS system in an ATCA chassis has a sustained image reconstruction rate of 32 slices, each with 1000 x 1000 pixel resolution, every 1/20th second – helping to enable up to 10 times reduction in radiation exposure.
In addition to the bright reds, oranges and yellows seen as the leaves turn this fall, pink will be everywhere during October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
