Memory problems are the most frequent complaints in epilepsy patients, and with 3 million people in the US suffering from epilepsy, this condition needs to be addressed. In response, the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group (NEREG) is introducing new locations to the only existing memory treatment program on January 24 in Staten Island and on January 26 in Middletown, NY.
Researchers found distinct regional patterns: They reported that excessive drinking rates were highest in the Northern states, while rates of teen births, sexually transmitted infections and children in poverty were highest in the South.
New research showing that almost half of 13,000 patients with head and neck cancers had other health-related problems at the same time is one of the presentations in a special session at the 31st conference of the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO 31) today.
Researchers at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute have led a preclinical study demonstrating that the drug palovarotene suppresses the formation of bony tumors (osteochondromas) in models of multiple hereditary exostoses (MHE).
"Multiple hospitalizations for complications from a terminal illness may be burdensome for elderly patients and reflect poor quality care," write Joan M. Teno, M.D., M.S., of the Warren Alpert School of Medicine of Brown University, Providence, R.I., and colleagues, who conducted a study to examine whether the occurrence of multiple hospitalizations for the complications of infections or dehydration was associated with survival.
