AMIA, the association for professionals in biomedical and health informatics, sent comments to the federal Office of the National Coordinator on Health Information Technology (DHHS/ ONCHIT), which has actively supported and incentivized the adoption and meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs) over the last year, and which solicited comment, through the HIT Policy Committee (HITPC), on the continuation of support for achieving meaningful use of EHRs in 2013 and 2014.
In a study that involved more than 31,000 women who are carriers of disease-associated mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes, researchers identified mutations that were associated with significantly different risks of breast and ovarian cancers, findings that may have implications for risk assessment and cancer prevention decision making among carriers of these mutations, according to a study in the April 7 issue of JAMA.
Response Biomedical Corporation announced that the Company has received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a continuation of the patent entitled "Sensitive Immunochromatographic Assay". This patent covers key aspects of Response Biomedical's lateral flow immunoassays with the proprietary RAMP® testing platform.
Lead researcher Associate Professor Andy Tan said the heart pump's innovative design was based on a double-output centrifugal model that pushed the blood in a counter direction to ensure correct flow through both sides of the heart, and is the subject of a patent application.
New research illustrates that some patients with transformed lymphoma showed "remarkable" response to lenalidomide, an oral drug with few side effects.
