Heart attack, or myocardial infarction, is the number one cause of death worldwide. A study published in the European Heart Journal by scientists at Helmholtz Zentrum München and colleagues from a range of other Bavarian institutions shows that the risk of suffering a heat-induced heart attack has increased significantly in recent years.
The ranks of people enrolled in either a consumer-driven health plan (CDHP) or a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) reached 22 million in 2010, according to a report released today by the nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI). Participation in these account-based health care plans is low, but continues to grow, EBRI finds in its sixth annual Consumer Engagement in Health Care Survey.
At the recent meeting of the American Urological Association in San Francisco, researchers presented studies regarding the decision making process men go through when considering proposed prostate cancer treatments. Dr. Vorstman, renowned Florida urologist, believes these studies would have more meaning if patients were presented with information about prostate cancer treatment options in a different fashion.
A pair of studies by Duke University neuroscientists shows powerful new evidence of a deep biological link between human music and speech.
