Centura Health Corp. this week abruptly terminated Dr. Barbara Morris, 65, a geriatrician with 40 years of experience, who had planned to help her patient, Cornelius "Neil" Mahoney, 64, end his life at his home. Mahoney, who has terminal cancer, is eligible to use the state's law, overwhelmingly approved by Colorado voters in 2016.
Older adults with dementia are more frequent visitors to emergency departments, returning at higher rates and incurring greater costs than older adults without dementia, according to a new study from the Regenstrief Institute and the Indiana University Center for Aging Research. The study is one of the first to explore long-term patterns of healthcare use and mortality rates of elders with cognitive impairment who visit the emergency department.
Compugen Ltd. today announced it has raised gross proceeds of $20 million, completing in full its previously announced Controlled Equity Offering facility. Under this facility, a total of approximately 4.1 million ordinary shares were sold at a weighted average price of approximately $4.91 per share. These shares were sold in the open market at prevailing prices during the period November 13, 2009 to December 29, 2009.
These officials say the administration has also made modest but important progress in controlling Medicare spending, the biggest debt driver. The budget raises some Medicare premiums on high-income retirees and increases some deductibles.
Barbara Gilchrest, MD, professor and Chair Emeritus of the department of dermatology at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and dermatologist at Boston Medical Center (BMC), has been named a 2012 Charter Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Gilchrest, a resident of Boston's North End, is among four faculty members at Boston University nominated to the NAI in 2012.
