A latest study shows that people who are depressed may be a little more likely than others to suffer a stroke down the road. Looking at 28 past studies, researchers estimated there would be 106 extra cases of stroke per 100,000 depressed people each year, 22 of them fatal.

(PTC) today announced that it has reached a major research milestone in its collaboration with Schering-Plough Corporation (NYSE: SGP) receiving a $2 million payment in connection with the designation of a development candidate for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.
The George Washington University Cancer Institute has been awarded a $2.1 million cooperative agreement to work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to design and implement a comprehensive technical assistance plan to support CDC-funded Comprehensive Cancer Control programs.
"Researchers say they've developed the first vaccine for visceral leishmaniasis (VL) - a disease that affects 500,000 people each year and has been called the 'parasitic version of HIV,'" although the diseases are unrelated, U.S. News reports.
BioCision, the coolprep company, today announced the release of three new cryopreservation systems: CoolCell FTS30, the first large-capacity, high-density cell freezing system; CoolCell SV2 for freezing cells in larger diameter 2ml vials; and CoolCell 5ml for large cryovial freezing.
