The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) is traveling to Washington, DC June 14th-15th to build support for legislation aimed at better understanding, preventing and curing Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
As a patient safety best practice and endorsement of evidence-based medicine, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Board of Directors approved and released a clinical practice guideline, which found a strong recommendation against a popular procedure called vertebroplasty as a way to treat fractures in the spine. Clinical practice guidelines are one avenue the Academy uses to ensure that patients receive high quality care.
Health officials in Britain say Scotland now has the one of highest obesity rates in the developed world, and comes second to the United States.
Practice makes perfect when people learn behaviors, from baseball pitching to chess playing to public speaking. Biomedical engineers at Washington University in St. Louis have now identified how people use individual experiences to improve performance.
A new pilot study suggests that treating soft-tissue sarcoma with a new regimen of intense chemotherapy and a short course of radiation before surgery may be beneficial. About 41 percent of study participants were found to have complete tumor death at the time of surgery.
