The bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae harmlessly colonizes the mucous linings of throats and noses in most people, only becoming virulent when they leave those comfortable surroundings and enter the middle ears, lungs or bloodstream. Now, in research published in July in mBio, University at Buffalo researchers reveal how that happens.
BioCision, LLC today announced that they have entered into an exclusive partnership with Cook Regentec to develop two custom CoolCell controlled-rate cell freezing systems for Cook's closed-system cell therapy CellSeal vials.
For many people with high cholesterol, statins serve as the first line of treatment. However, some patients are unable to effectively reduce their low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) or "bad cholesterol" levels with statins, the most commonly used medication to treat high cholesterol, due to their bodies' inability to tolerate or sufficiently respond to the medicine.
"Finland's national health institute said on Thursday its latest research on previously found links between children's narcolepsy and GlaxoSmithKline's Pandemrix vaccine against H1N1 swine flu also involved a genetic risk factor," Reuters reports.
The current system has resulted in some Ambulance Trusts having to employ dedicated staff dealing exclusively with the paperwork involved to prove that ambulance vehicles are responding to emergencies. The Ambulance Service Association (ASA) estimate that this costs Trusts up to £1million a year.
