HIV/AIDS advocates in Mexico City have begun protesting the problems of stigma, discrimination and a lack of access to antiretroviral drugs in Latin America ahead of next week's XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City, Agence France-Presse reports (Rosenthal, Agence France-Presse, 7/29).
The introduction of the drug imatinib in 2001 revolutionized the treatment of a type of cancer called chronic myelogenous leukemia. In more than 80% of people with CML who received the drug, the disease went into complete remission.
Researchers recommend measuring inhibin B concentration in combination with basal luteinising hormone as a first-line test to discover the underlying cause of delayed puberty in boys.
For the second year in a row, which is also the second year that The Leapfrog Group has issued letter grades for hospital safety, Porter Adventist Hospital has earned an "A" for overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.
At a time when healthcare is at the top of the national agenda, two issues have emerged as most critical to reform: reducing costs and improving care. Managing chronic illness and improving overall consumer health through personalized disease management and wellness programs are proven to be effective, but today, only those patients and health plan members who are most at risk get personalized attention.
