Irwin Redlener, MD, President and Co-founder of the Children's Health Fund, a national organization that advocates for and develops primary care programs for disadvantaged and medically underserved children, today released the following statement on release of the final Senate health care legislation by Majority Leader Harry Reid:
Rep. Jeff Miller says the Department of Veterans Affairs may have manipulated on a fact sheet given to Congress the number of veterans who died as a result of waiting for care.
"In a report launched [on Tuesday] - a valuable yardstick called, 'A Growing Opportunity: Measuring Investments in African Agriculture' - ONE reviews the past decade and finds some notable successes in terms of mustering money and political commitment, and the impact of agricultural development," Roger Thurow, senior fellow on global agriculture and food policy at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, writes in the group's "Global Food For Thought" blog.
Racial disparities in hypertension control account for nearly 8,000 preventable deaths annually among African-Americans, making increased blood pressure control among African-Americans a "compelling goal," reported Lisa M. Lewis, PhD, RN, of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing.
The federal government has allocated only about 2 percent of its transportation funds to encourage walking and cycling, not nearly enough to make a significant difference, according to Ralph Buehler, associate professor and chair of the urban affairs and planning program in the Virginia Tech School of Public and International Affairs.
