Scientists label cells with coloured or glowing chemicals to observe how basic cellular activities differ between healthy and cancerous cells. Existing techniques for labelling cells are either too slow or too toxic to perform on live cells. Now, a study reviewed by Philip Dawson, a member of Faculty of 1000 Biology and leading authority in chemistry and cell biology, describes a novel labelling technique that uses a chemical reaction to make live cancer cells light up quickly and safely.
Gateway Apothecary in St. Louis, Mo., has received a Peter M. Fox Excellence in HIV Credentialing Award for 2014. Gateway was the only pharmacy to be recognized among the 17 nationwide award recipients, which consist primarily of physicians and/or medical practices.
Roche announced today that the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT will be using the Roche LightCycler® 480 System, a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) system for the analysis of gene expression and genetic variation, in advanced cancer research.

Talecris is currently investigating Plasmin in a phase II clinical trial designed to assess its ability to treat aPAO, a condition in which arterial blood flow to the extremities, usually the legs, is blocked by a clot.
