A new report from a team of health care CEOs and researchers says California could save $110 billion over a decade if the state moved away from "fee-for-service" payment to doctors and into more coordinated care.
Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings announced today the nationwide availability of a new FDA cleared risk stratification tool (ROMA, Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm) that combines the results for Fujirebio HE4, Abbott's ARCHITECT CA 125 II, and menopausal status into a numerical score that, along with clinical and radiological evaluation, can aid in evaluating whether a woman over the age of 18 who presents with an ovarian mass and for whom surgery is planned is at high or low likelihood of finding malignancy on surgery.
A team at Scripps Research in Florida has discovered a biological system that manages cells' response to opioid drug exposure. The unexpected discovery offers new ideas for improving the safety of the one of the most effective, and most abused, group of pain medications.
Results of Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Phase III clinical trial E4A03, for multiple myeloma, showing significantly better overall survival with lenalidomide plus low-dose dexamethasone therapy compared to lenalidomide plus high-dose dexamethasone, were reported today by S. Vincent Rajkumar, M.D. at the American Society of Hematology's annual meeting.
