Researchers report in the October 2007 issue of Molecular & Cellular Proteomics the most complete list so far of the proteins present in the cerebral cortex – the outermost layer of the brain that plays a central role in memory, language, cognition, and consciousness.
Living with HIV is difficult under the best of circumstances, but for people carrying the virus, alcohol consumption can become particularly perilous in intricate ways that are only beginning to be understood. At the Brown Alcohol Research Center on HIV (ARCH) funded by a new $7.5-million, five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health, Brown University scientists will study the health effects of drinking with HIV and provide doctors and patients with the latest guidance their results suggest.
National Health Investors, Inc. (NYSE:NHI) has agreed to purchase six Florida skilled nursing facilities from Care Foundation of America, Inc. (CFA) for a total of $67 million, with the closing expected to occur within three months.
Aspirin can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular events - a combined endpoint including stroke, heart attack and death due to cardiovascular disease - in both men and women, according to a new meta-analysis of more than 95,000 patients by a Duke University Medical Center cardiologist.
Clinical studies have found that bone mineral density in patients with anxiety or depression is lower than in ordinary people.
