Over the past decade, significant advances have been made in the treatment of leukemia through the ongoing development of gene-based targeted therapies. Research that will be presented today at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology provides greater understanding of the optimal use of several BCR-ABL inhibitors for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia and chronic myeloid leukemia, and how a new gene target functions for several myeloid malignancies.
Yeast fungus cells that kill thousands of AIDS patients every year escape detection by our bodies' defences by hiding inside our own defence cells, and hitch a ride through our systems before attacking and spreading, scientists heard today (Tuesday 9 September 2008) at the Society for General Microbiology's 163rd meeting being held this week at Trinity College, Dublin.
Scientists in India have developed a new gel that is taken orally and is capable of delivering drugs to manage diseases often requiring an injection.
A new study published in the journal JAMA Network Open on November 13, 2019, says that while more adults joined weight-loss programs in the period 1999 to 2016, the results weren't quite satisfactory. People are heavier today, by about 2.8 Kg, on average, than at the beginning of the study, though about 42% of all people are trying to lose weight by diverse methods including dieting, exercise, cutting down on sweets and drinking more water.
