The biotechnology company BIOCAD has signed an agreement with the State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology «Vektor» (Novosibirsk) on joint work on a vaccine based on rVSV against the COVID-19 virus.
The measure, which would keep the federal government functioning until March 18, funds most programs at their current level. It does, however, trim $4 billion by targeting certain programs — but the health law is not "de-funded" in this plan. Still, governors are uneasy about the impact likely federal spending reductions will have on their budgets.
New England Journal of Medicine: Increased Ambulatory Care Copayments And Hospitalizations Among The Elderly - This study examines the consequences of increasing copayments for outpatient care of Medicare enrollees in managed-care plans. "As compared with matched control plans in which copayments for ambulatory care were unchanged, Medicare plans that increased these copayments by an average of 95% for primary care and 74% for specialty care had a reduction in the number of outpatient visits but an increase in hospital admissions, in the number of days of hospital care, and in the proportion of enrollees who used hospital care," the authors write.
At 2.3 billion, the number of people worldwide covered by at least one life-saving measure to limit tobacco use has more than doubled in the last five years, according to the WHO Report on the Global Tobacco Epidemic 2013.
