When people are in the early stages of an undiagnosed disease, immediate tests that lead to treatment are the best first steps. But a blood draw - usually performed by a medical professional armed with an uncomfortably large needle - might not be quickest, least painful or most effective method, according to new research.
The era of the television brought with it the TV dinner - a fast, convenient meal that, while nutritionally questionable, meant the whole family could gather together on the sofa to enjoy "The Ed Sullivan Show" and eat their Swanson Salisbury steak, too.
An international consortium of genome research institutes and investigators, including Jackson Laboratory Staff Scientists Carol J. Bult, Ph.D., and Martin Ringwald, Ph.D., has reported significant new breakthroughs in understanding how the genes in mammals are controlled.
Following the severe earthquake that has hit Southeast Asia, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is preparing an emergency intervention in a number of affected countries. Already ten MSF emergency workers have been mobilised to evaluate the needs in India, Malaysia and Indonesia.
