A new study finds that women treated for breast cancer are at higher risk of cancer recurrence if they have dense breasts. Published in the December 15, 2009 issue of Cancer, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, the study's results indicate that breast cancer patients with dense breasts may benefit from additional therapies following surgery, such as radiation.
The average academic grades of children and teens with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea are worse than the grades of students who have no sleep-disordered breathing, according to a research abstract that will be presented Tuesday, June 8, 2010, in San Antonio, Texas, at SLEEP 2010, the 24th annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies LLC.
Only 6 months after the release of its ground-breaking DropSense 96 spectrophotometer, Trinean, pioneer in high throughput analysis of droplets of samples in microfluidic structures, is now launching another device that will set the tone in scientific circles: the DropPlate 16 G. This upgrade of the current microfluid disposable, the DropPlate 16 U, allows researchers to quantify 96 DNA/RNA samples of only 2 microl in less than 5 minutes.
Studying the way a person's brain 'sings' could improve our understanding of conditions such as epilepsy and schizophrenia and help develop better treatments, scientists at Cardiff University have discovered.
