The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, with the generous support of METI and L-3 Communications, Inc., have announced the first 25 recipients of the Frank Lanza Memorial Scholarship Program. The scholarships recognize the accomplishments of students enrolled in allied health programs offered by regionally accredited community colleges. Twenty-five students received scholarships of $1,000 each.
Michael Koumjian, a heart surgeon for nearly three decades, said he considered treating the sickest patients a badge of honor. The San Diego doctor was frequently called upon to operate on those who had multiple illnesses or who'd undergone CPR before arriving at the hospital.
AstraZeneca today announced new analyses of exenatide once weekly (ExQW) demonstrating a favorable gastrointestinal (GI) tolerability profile, including less frequent upper and lower GI adverse events (AE), compared to shorter-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA), exenatide twice daily (ExBID) and liraglutide once daily (LiraQD).
Scientists have devised a newer form of blood test called TARDIS to diagnose breast cancer more accurately. This could help many thousands of women avoid needless breast biopsies and removals, as well as helping to follow up the treatment of breast cancer.
The pandemic has highlighted poor care in America's nursing homes, where nearly 175,000 people have died of covid-19 — a third of all deaths from the disease nationwide.
